Shoulder/Elbow/Wrist Pain

Expert non-surgical assessment and treatment for shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions — from acute sporting injuries to chronic overuse syndromes.

Overview

Upper Extremity Pain

Upper extremity injuries affect the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand — and are among the most frequently seen musculoskeletal presentations in both active and working populations. Whether the result of a sporting collision, a repetitive workplace task, or a gradual overuse syndrome, upper limb injuries can significantly limit your ability to work, train, and perform everyday activities.

At Cornerstone Medical Group, we take a thorough, evidence-based approach to assessing and treating upper extremity injuries — combining precise clinical assessment with advanced treatment technologies to restore pain-free movement and full function.

Common Upper Extremity Conditions We Treat

Rotator Cuff Tears and Tendinopathy Partial or full thickness tears, and degenerative tendon changes affecting the rotator cuff muscles — commonly causing shoulder pain, weakness, and restricted overhead movement.

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome Compression of the rotator cuff tendons and bursa beneath the acromion, producing pain with arm elevation and overhead activity.

Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) Progressive stiffening and inflammation of the shoulder joint capsule, resulting in significant loss of range of motion and persistent pain — particularly at night.

Shoulder Instability and Labral Tears Damage to the glenoid labrum and supporting ligaments, often following dislocation or repetitive overhead loading, leading to a sensation of looseness, clicking, or giving way.

Acromioclavicular (AC) Joint Sprains Injuries to the joint between the collarbone and shoulder blade, commonly sustained in contact sports or falls onto the shoulder.

Lateral Epicondylalgia (Tennis Elbow) Degenerative changes to the common extensor tendon at the outer elbow, producing pain and weakness with gripping, lifting, and wrist extension.

Medial Epicondylalgia (Golfer’s Elbow) Overuse degeneration of the common flexor tendon at the inner elbow, often associated with repetitive gripping, throwing, or forearm rotation.

Elbow Bursitis Inflammation of the olecranon bursa at the back of the elbow, causing localised swelling and discomfort — commonly seen following direct trauma or prolonged pressure.

Wrist Sprains and Ligament Injuries Partial or complete tears of the wrist ligaments, frequently caused by a fall onto an outstretched hand or rapid twisting movements.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis Inflammation of the tendons at the base of the thumb, causing pain and swelling along the thumb side of the wrist — common in new mothers, racquet sport athletes, and those performing repetitive hand movements.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Compression of the median nerve at the wrist, producing numbness, tingling, and weakness in the thumb, index, and middle fingers — often worse at night or with sustained hand use.

Trigger Finger (Stenosing Tenosynovitis) Inflammation and narrowing of the tendon sheath causing a finger to catch, lock, or click when bending — ranging from mild discomfort to a finger becoming fixed in a bent position.
