Find answers to common questions about our services, treatments, and what to expect during your visit. If you need further assistance, our team is always here to help.
Your first visit is all about understanding you. Not just your symptoms, but the full picture of your health, history, and goals.
How long will it take? Your initial consultation is typically 45 to 60 minutes. We allow this time deliberately because a thorough assessment is the foundation of a treatment plan that actually works.
What will we cover? Your clinician will begin with a detailed case history, covering the nature and timeline of your condition, any previous treatments you’ve tried, relevant medical history, lifestyle factors, and what you’re hoping to achieve through care. Nothing is too small to mention.
Will I be examined? Yes. A comprehensive physical examination follows your history. Depending on your condition, this may include postural and movement assessment, orthopaedic and neurological testing, palpation of the spine and surrounding structures, and range of motion evaluation. This allows us to identify not just where your pain is, but why it’s there.
Will I receive treatment on the first visit? In most cases, yes. Where clinically appropriate, your first session will include an initial treatment alongside your assessment. However, your clinician will always explain their findings and discuss your options before proceeding. Your informed consent and comfort come first.
Will I receive a diagnosis? Your clinician will explain their clinical findings clearly and in plain language. Where imaging or specialist referral is indicated, we will discuss this with you and coordinate the appropriate pathway.
What should I bring?
What happens after the first visit? Before you leave, your clinician will outline a recommended care plan and may include treatment frequency, expected timeframes, and the goals we’re working toward together.
No you do not. As primary health professionals you may come direct to us to make an appointment. You may however, bring a referral with you if you have one issued by your GP (EPC/TCA/CDMs), specialist, plan manager (NDIS) or care manager (Aged Care Support At Home). We also accept referrals from WorkCover, TAC and DVA.
This is one of the most common questions we hear, and, an honest one worth answering clearly.
The truth is, there’s no universal answer. Treatment duration depends on several factors, including the nature and severity of your condition, how long you’ve had it, your age and general health, how well you respond to initial care, and your personal goals – whether that’s pain relief, functional recovery, or long-term maintenance.
As a general guide:
Your clinician will give you a realistic care plan recommendation after your first visit, including expected timeframes and clear treatment goals. We review progress regularly and adjust your plan as needed. You’ll never be kept in care longer than is clinically justified.
Our goal is simple: to get you better as efficiently as possible, and to give you the tools to stay that way.
In most cases yes and in fact, exercises are often encouraged to keep up your healthy, active lifestyle. If however, after examination, we discover that exercise is just simply impossible e.g acute ankle sprain/strain, then we will advice you of such a situation and recommend other forms of activities to keep you active and moving.
Your comfort and dignity is important to us. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is ideal. Your clinician will need to assess and in some cases treat the area of your spine or joints directly, so wearing clothing that allows easy access to the relevant area will make your appointment smoother and more comfortable.
A few practical tips:
Yes. Cornerstone Medical Group accepts private health insurance for eligible services.
If your extras cover includes chiropractic, physiotherapy, remedial massage, or other allied health services, you may be entitled to a rebate on your consultation fees. The amount you can claim will depend on your individual policy, your level of extras cover, and your remaining annual benefit limits.
Claiming is simple. Our clinic uses HICAPS, which means you can claim your health fund rebate on the spot at the time of payment, no need to submit forms or wait for reimbursements. Simply bring your physical health fund card or have your digital card ready on your phone.
We recommend checking with your insurer before your first visit to confirm:
We are recognised by all major Australian health funds, including Medibank, Bupa, HCF, NIB, HBF, and more.
